Subject: New Century Visit - 12/1/95 ALS' Birthday After Hours

Rather than focus on the big event itself, I decided to reminisce about
what took place afterwards, which IMHO, had more significance for ASSC.:

The nicest time of the night was when a bunch of us went down to an
after hours restaurant in Chinatown. BOTH TIKI and KAT showed up, which
was a pleasant surprise. It was kind of a weird scene having about 11
or 12 of us packed tightly around this table, cramped for space. I
almost made this far-flung allusion to King Arthur and his Round Table
of knights, but shot back to reality when I couldn't make the
transition from Sean Connery to ALS.. : ) oh well, at least we had the
2 Gwenevieres.....

I didn't remember a lot of the conversion that night, although I
cracked up when Bubba was trying to remember his "dirty limerick." ALS
and Douglee ordered Porridge again (at 2:30 A.M. in the morning?) while
everyone else enjoyed a cornucopia of Mandarin delights (or Shezuan, or
Cantonese?) TIKI blurted out a lot of sexually explicit euphemisms,
while KAT rifled off her knowledge of the Internet. It was nice sitting
beside her for a change instead of underneath her.. : } but mainly we
were having normal conversations about normal everyday things except
when ALS got defensive about his "day job." Although we sort of got a
clue when he grabbed for the tip and started thanking everybody and
then caught himself at the last second.......: )

Dinner broke up at about 3:30 and we all filtered out, saying our
good-byes. TIKI and I shook hands, then pulled me close to her and said
something suggestive. When is this girl ever off! KAT was doing a
Dorothy-Judy Garland impersonation hugging the "Scarecrow" and the
"Tin-Man" good-bye. When she came to me I joked "So what am I, the
Cowardly Lion?" but hugged me and said "Good-bye, Wizard!" Somehow
going from a coward to a fake didn't do much for my self-esteem....

In all, a very memorable evening, and possibly a first of its kind for
this newsgroup. Although some of us may have done this on an individual
basis, I thought it a unique experience when dancers and customers
alike found a focal point of interest and got together on the basis of
camaraderie. We proved, at least in our little group, that ASSC is more
than just "a little boys club" on the 'net. It's nice to see some
barriers open up at least for that night with everyone treating each
other like human beings instead of this "hit and run" activity on a
newsgroup. An old fashioned get-together beats flame-posting
anytime.....

As a result of this event I'll be proudly wearing my ASS-C button
whenever I go to NC......all hail ASSC/NC Chapter!
