Dancers come and go, just like customers. The faces change but it's
just about the same shit over and over again. Once you've been in the
industry for a while, it all gets really old fast. But once in a
while, something different happens.

I was at a dance contest in November, watching the "amateur"
contestants. One of them attracted my eyes. No, she wasn't the best
looking, the tallest, the girl with the biggest boobs, or best hair,
or anything like that. It wasn't even the X-Factor(r). Nothing special.
Just something in her face.

She didn't win the contest. She didn't even place. But afterwards, I
decided to have a little chat with her. She seemed very intelligent
and friendly. She flirted with me and we laughed a lot. I don't
remember what it was about. Just funny.

She got hired to work at the club and decided to work there that very
night. I stayed and we talked more and I got to like her. I wasn't
about sex or dancing. Just 2 people enjoying each other. She told me
that she had just moved to LA one day ago and needed to dance to make
some quick money. She didn't know what she was going to do but she
just wanted to see LA. That sounded reasonable to me. I've heard
similar stories from many dancers.

After closing, she went into the dressing room and I didn't see her
for a while. Later, when I saw her, I didn't recognize her because
she had very short hair and was wearing a ski cap.

I said, "Hey! What's up with your hair?" Not in a mean way, just
sort of kidding her. I thought she would tell me that she liked short
hair or her perm went crazy on her and she had to cut it.

Unfortunately for me, her answer was, "I have leukemia". I don't say,
"unfortunately" because of any other reason except what I said next.
I just didn't really know what to say. I was sort of shocked. My
next words were, "You're gonna be OK, right?". She looked me right in
the eyes, paused, and said, "No."

I felt like shit. I didn't know what to say or do. It was such an
awkward moment, I just said, "Sorry about that" and walked away. I
couldn't even continue our conversation because I felt so strange.

I never saw her again after that night. I heard she is staying with
the DJ from the club. I hope she's doing OK there.

What's this got to do with anything? Nothing. It's just my fuckin'
diary. For you old timers on ASSC, you know how my old diaries used
to read, so I'm sure you saw this coming a million miles away.
